not to hijack, but the few times i have had to send things to canon factory service they actually fixed the problem. well, except for the one time i had a lens fixed and it didn't focus upon return, but i sent it back and it was better than new once i got it back the 2nd time. don't even get me started on a certain big box electronic store's "DORK ZONE" who couldn't fix a flat tire let alone a sophisticated piece of equipment.
