bittern

    this is the first time I ever saw one of these let alone get a quick photo. they are very hard to spot as they usually stand straight up in the tall grass with their beaks pointing up to hide from ; prey and they blend in well with the grass

    With those markings, I can see why it's hard to see them. ; Nice one, Howie!

    Good shot - nice to add one to the collection of birds captured! ; Despite having such dense populations of all of these types of birds down here, I still only occasionally get a good bittern sighting or shot - mostly the least bittern, and only rarely the american bittern.

    thanks Justin. I really want bald eagles and peregrines and hawks more then anything else but man are they hard to get in flight. and thanks John

    been going to forsythe for 5 years and first time seeing one. It was behind me and a bud saw it and we snuck up on it.
    I have a long list of birds I want to get
