Anyone up for starting a TMIP WDW Treasure Hunt game?

OK...crazy idea, and not fully formed in my head yet. But an idea struck me as I noticed Tim's post about leaving Disney just a few weeks before I head there...and then thinking about how often SOMEONE from here is at Disney World basically every month (some of the locals who live nearby go often enough to fill any gaps).

Here's the idea: We have some 'trinket' or idol or object which will represent the 'treasure'. It should be cheap and valueless so its loss doesn't hurt, and small enough to hide easily.

The object is hidden somewhere in one of the 4 main WDW parks by the person to start the hunt, and a photo taken of the general area where it is hidden. It should be somewhere that normal Disney maintenance or cleanup or landscaping doesn't guarantee it'll be disposed of - somewhere that there's a chance it could hide for a while...such as in a small hole in a wall, or under a bench's metal seat frame, etc. Then the person who hid the treasure posts the photo of the area, and a description of how to find it ("under the left edge of the bench seat", or "in the small notch in the palm tree's trunk on the left side", etc.). Then, any next person who happens to go to the park can try to find the treasure based on the photo - to see if they can figure out which park it's in and where the photo location is. Once they get to the right location, they can use the description to track down the treasure. If found, take a photo of it to show you found it, then re-hide it somewhere else and take a photo of the new hidden location and leave a description for the next person to find it.

Crazy idea? Yeah! And maybe it needs some more brainstorming on how to make it work. But I think it would be alot of fun, and something unique to TMIP. As long as the treasure has no real value, we won't mind if it ends up not being there when someone hunts down the location because it was swept up in cleaning, or because the wall it was hidden in was repainted or something! It can be a marble, a small fridge magnet, a coin with writing on it, a little Mickey, a Monopoly game piece...whatever!

We can try starting somewhat easy as to the location...give a wide enough photo hint to make it a little easier to find out the location at first...then if it catches on, we can start posting photos of anonymous pathways and trees - or hiding it on particular train cars - that make it much more of a 'hunt'. BTW, I've inadvertently laid down the groundwork experiments for this idea - since I go to Disney often, I've intentionally placed things in certain places to see if they're still in that same spot when I get back...such as putting a small rock from a garden area behind a bench leg, or behind a sign on a rail - never somewhere that was visible to the public or easy to inadvertently stumble onto...and many times found my object a few months later, still there! (a few times, it had been removed, which is why I'd never make it valuable).

Anyone up for it? Fun or stupid? Crazy or brilliant? Lay it on me! If anyone likes the idea...who's going next? I'll be there July 26th, and would be happy to kick it off, unless anyone's there before me! If not...hey! It was just a crazy idea. :)

    That is a neat idea.
Dina and I do the same thing. We have left stuff in almost every room we have stayed in and in various parts of the contemp.
Sometimes it is still there when we look for it! :)

The magnet is a good idea because you could stick it to stuff.

I think that this sounds like a lot of fun. It would be interesting to see how many places it could end up.

Well cool! Sounds like a few are up for it. If noone else is headed up before me, I'll go ahead and start looking for something to use as the 'treasure'. I can kick it off on my upcoming trip Jul 26-30. I'll try to start it fairly easy the first time - somewhere that it won't be easily accidentally cleaned up but that should be easier to find from the photo location and description. I've got a few ideas as to where I can hide things. I'll try to find a magnet we can use.

This could get pretty fun - not only searching for it and rehiding it for those who go, but even following the thread for those who aren't there - we can still try to guess at where it's hidden based on the photo and then see if we were right when the location is revealed by the finder.

Not to mention that it might get some fun attention by park visitors who see someone hunting around determinedly in a corner or behind a bench and triumphantly finding the treasure - they'll wonder how they can get in on the hunt! ;)
