I have question for the annual pass holders in the group. ; I'm sure this is a stupid question, but i'm going to ask it anyway. ; I understand the rules about renewing the pass where if you renew it within the grace period, the renewed pass would expire one year from the original date of expiration. ; But what I didn't see on the Disney pass holder web page is information on what happens if you let the pass lapse for most of a year and then renew. ; Am I correct in assuming that letting it lapse would allow you to shift the expiration date? ;
I have done this before & in my experience, it was just like starting all over. I had an Annual Pass that I made two trips within the year. I knew once that one would Expire, I would not be going back again inside of a year, so I let it Expire. I then purchased a New Annual Pass Voucher from the Disney Store & activated when I arrived in WDW. It was then good for one year from that date.
Yep, if you "let it expire" then you start over when you activate the new pass. ; No discount for the pass, you pay the regular rate since you did not renew.
I have found that the 30-40 discount to renew is not worth it if the next trip is several months away. ; Like the others have said, letting it lapse is like starting over from scratch and since there is no "loyalty program" to incentivize renewing, other than the small discount, its not worth it to me to renew if I am not coming back very close to the expiration date.
That's likely true. ; I always renew mine for the discount, even if I'm a month or so past, but I certainly go enough throughout the year to get my money's worth from it. ; With the Florida resident rate being less already, plus the renewal discount, it's silly not to get the annual pass if you live down here.
I redeem rewards points from my Disney Visa to reduce my renewal cost. ; Another tip, if you are going to let your AP expire, is to stop by your local Disney store and buy an AP voucher. ; Lock it away in a safe place and use it when you're ready. ; If Disney raises prices, as they do every summer, you're ahead of the game.
Then I got real lucky on my last trip. ; I had renewed my AP in April 2011, but was not going to use it/ pick it up until pixelmania. ; When i went to the MK Guest Relations booth the Cast Member said I could reset my renewal date by just paying the ifference between my renewal rate and the base rate ( which wasnt much). ; However, after talking with her supervisor, they let me renew at the base rate at the time I renewed instead of the newer higher base rate in october. ; So I think I ended up paying for just under a single day ticket for the difference and now my renewal date is in october. ; Next string of luck is that i am hoping to do a quick weekend trip in mid october in which my pass expires the day i fly BACK home. ; How sweet is that. ; Then I plan to renew the ticket at pixelmania which gives me Pixelmania, my typical spring vacation & pixelmania 2013 on the AP. ; suffice it to say that the Guest Relations Cast Member got a great written review sent to her supervisors.
