After Disney - Suggestions?

Our family of four is visiting Disney in October for 5 nights/6 days.

Not wanting to cut the trip short, I'd like to rent a car, and explore a bit for another three nights. Daytona perhaps?

Seeing as how the kids are young (7), there won't be much needed in the way of fine dining, or late nights out.

I know this is a Disney forum, but thought I'd ask for suggestions anyways, as I'm sure that someone else has been in the same situation.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you talking Day trips or just exploring after you hit Disney?

We leave WDW on the Thursday, and were thinking of renting a car / booking a hotel somewhere, for three nights to take us up to Sunday (when we fly back).

Having a few quiet days post Disney might be nice.

I immediately thought of Daytona, but from what I see online, it looks a bit over-rated.

Maybe something on the gulf side....a nice beach for the kids, clean accomodation, and a bit to see and do would be nice.

The Clearwater/Tampa area is really nice.

New Smyrna Beach area on the Atlantic side is nice too!

When I was a teenager we stayed in Kissimmee - which isn't too far from Disney. We stayed at a hotel which had "Old Town" about a 4 minute walk (a few rides, arcade, old fashioned ice cream parlour/soda shop, general store) we had a blast and spent most of our time there.....with a few trips to bush gardens, sea world and universal

We loved St. Augustine if your into history it's a great place to explore and stroll around at night too. You are also close to many beaches. The Kennedy Space Center is also a fun day trip.
