Today, we celebrated Billy's very first trip to see the Philadelphia Phillies. A friend of ours was generous to donate 4 tickets to the cause, and as you can see, the seats were terrific (first row, on the field, third base line). Out comes the trusty 5d with the 70-200L and a 2x teleconverter and I was in heaven. Only took a few pics during the game because I was having too much fun at the old 'yard. To recap, Phils won 5-3 (5 homers in the game between the teams), Billy eats some ice cream and pretzels, gets a Build-a-Bear Phillie Phanatic, a certificate for his first Phillies game, Billy also gets a free Phillies hat because it was a give-away day, and a nice time out with Grammy and Grandpop to boot. What a wonderful day and a very proud feeling for Daddy with his son at the Ballpark. THAT is stuff that you can't put a price on. Period.
Last time I was at a Phillies game they played a dbl header against the Braves and my cousin pitched and won against the Phillies. Forget what happened in game 2. Now that was a great day.. Actually am glad you enjoyed your day Tim. Sounds like you had a great time.
To elaborate, HW's distant cousin was the great lefty, Warren Spahn. He had a few good years ... Notice the beautiful bokeh.... (sarcasm was completely intended, Howie)
2nd cousin. Never got to meet him. He was at a family reunion in Md. in the 70s' but I was in the navy at the time and on a med cruise.
Nice pics, Tim. Which 70-200 did you use ? The f/4, f/2.8 or f/2.8 IS ? I've only got the f/4, but it's the best lens in my collection. If I ever get around to moving up to the 5D, I'll have to add the teleconverter as well for the extra reach. I'm faking it right now with the 1.6x crop factor on my Rebel XT. See if you can score the same tickets next month when my Tigers head out to Philadelphia. There will be lots of opportunities to snap shots of them rounding the bases ... and maybe some good ones of their HRs landing in the drink
you had to start the kid off handicapped in life??, saddled with a phillies addiction?, phillies monkey on his back at such a young age! does that qualify for notifying child protective services?, maybe someday he could go to a mets-phillies game and see some quality baseball celebrating 3 out of 4 from the hated yanks addendum, i will give philadelphia props for a nice ballpark, was there 2 years ago, went to game in pittsburgh as part of same trip, i love these modern view/food friendly new ballparks,
My first post. Tim, great pics at the ball game. Here are a cpuole from a few weeks ago at the Chicago Cubs game. We had 3 row right next to the Cubs dugout. Notice the seat on the rooftops, across the street from Wrigley Field. What a great place to watch a game! Hope you like them.
on my to do before i die list, that is one ballpark i hope they never replace, and i just saw a photo string recently on another site, i did not know the building next to the last rooftop bleachers on the left is a chicago city engine house, what a great work location dedicated to hw spahn and sain and pray for rain anyone else remember hearing this?
I remember that Gary. Stan Musial aka Stan the Man said something funny about him.. "Warren Spahn will never get into the hall of fame because he won't stop pitching"
