Whereas me, with my big honking Manfrotto tripod, waltzes through security with absolutely zero resistance. However, every two or three years a clueless Karen CM at the gates (not security), (why is it ALWAYS at Hollywood Studios??), will stop me because she thinks no one is allowed to bring any tripods into the park at all. I call for backup from a manager and ̶r̶e̶q̶u̶e̶s̶t̶ ̶ INSIST!! to go to guest services with the Karen cast member to ̶s̶c̶h̶o̶o̶l̶ ̶ ̶ educate her dumb ass in the proper tripod policy. This almost always results in Karen backing down. Thank you for coming to my tripod TED talk. PS, Guest services is very friendly concerning tripod clearances.
For those flying in and renting a car, I have found that the prices from Budget and Alamo are significantly cheaper when renting in Tampa and dropping off in Orlando. I don't see any drop-off charges. The one-way rental is just under $500 for 11 days, which, while still ridiculously high, beats the $700-$800 prices for renting and returning in Orlando. It remains to be seen if prices drop further in the fall.
